 On behalf of H.E Ambassador Tarek Adel to the United Kingdom. SOCIAL CONTRACT LECTURE BY HEAD OF LONDON SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS AND POLITICAL SCIENCE



 Dr. Reem Bahgat attended a lecture titled ‘The Need for a New Social Contract: Learnt Lessons from Egypt’s Experience’ by Dame Minouche Shafik – Head of London School of Economics and Political Science in the United Kingdom on Wednesday 20th of February 2019.

CHARITY DAY IN THE EGYPTIAN SCHOOL



 The Egyptian School affiliated to the Cultural Bureau arranged an annual charity day on Saturday 16th of February 2019 to raise the student’s sense of giving and collaboration.

The school’s teachers and parents prepared cakes and was sold for a token price to the students; the charity day’s earnings were transferred to Baheya Hospital in Egypt.

DISABLING BARRIERS ACROSS BORDERS



 The Cultural Bureau arranged a talk by Mostafa Attia on Friday evening 15th of February 2019 tackling the global movement towards inclusion of disabled people and providing supporting laws to achieve this. According to several UN reports, disabled people represent approximately 15% of each countries' population which suggest that communities should exert efforts to accommodate this number.

TALK: THE EGYPTIAN FOLK HERITAGE



In collaboration with the Egyptian Ministry of Culture, The Cultural Bureau in London organized on Thursday evening 24th of January 2019 a talk tackling Egyptian Folk Heritage by Professor Mostafa Gad who was the ex-Dean of the High Institute of Folk Arts – Academy of Arts – in Egypt, who is also specialized in the documentation of intangible heritage. The talk was well attended by folk heritage enthusiasts.

MUSICAL EVENING: 'HALIM IN LONDON'



The Cultural Bureau organized a musical night on Saturday 19th January 2019; lead by the band of the famous jazz singer Ahmed Harfoush, the evening’s theme was ‘Halim in London’ where they presented a selection of AbdelHalim Hafez’s songs;

Around 200 people tried to register to attend the evening but only 120 were allowed as per the hall’s maximum seating setup.

The Cultural Bureau communicated with Professor Moataz Attallah in university of Birmingham and Faculty of Engineering in Ain Shams university, Where Professor Moataz launched an intensive training in Ain Shams university on 3D printing on Saturday 29th of December 2018.

The Cultural Bureau organised on Thursday 13th of December 2018 the screening of the award-winning Egyptian film (Photocopy); the Film was discussed later on with Director Mr. Tamer Ashry, International Film Producer Mr. Anwar Al Kawadry and Film Critic Dr. Khaled Aly.

Photocopy is a charming film about an old man discovering a new-found enthusiasm for life and love in current-day Cairo the lead role was played by actor Mahmoud Hemeda and actress Sherin Reda.

The Cultural Bureau organised a talk by the Historian Dr. Philip Mansel titled (Talk: From Mohammed Ali Pasha to King Farouk: The Rise and Fall of Royal Alexandria) on Tuesday 4th of December 2018; 

Using photographs, drawings and film, Dr. Mansel displayed that Alexandria’s role as a royal capital provided the foundations for its prosperity as a cosmopolitan Levantine trading port, once known as ‘the Queen of the Mediterranean’, linking Egypt and Europe.

SEMINAR: DID THE PHOENICIANS REACH THE AMERICAS BEFORE CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS?



The Cultural Bureau in London arranged a seminar on Thursday 15th of November 2018 titled: (Did the Phoenicians reach the Americas before Christopher Columbus?) by British Navy Captain Philip Beale.

The Cultural Bureau hosted the opening of (Colours of Egypt) Exhibition on Thursday 18th of October 2018. The exhibition displayed oil paintings for 4 Egyptian artists from El Marsam Painters: Farida Darwish, Dina Fahmy, Rasha Ghaleb and Fairda El Kouni.

Dr. Reem Bahgat thanked Amr Al Ezaby for the Ministry of Tourism's support for the paintings' shipment; the opening was well attended by art lovers who praised the quality of the paintings despite the fact that the artists are relatively new to the field; The exhibition lasted in the Bureau till 7th of November 2018.

The Cultural Bureau organized a poetic evening for the belated poet Salah Abdel Sabour on Thursday 30th of August 2018. The evening was presented by the Journalist Yousry Hussein; A collection of his poems was read in Arabic by the poet Dr. Mohamed Gomeih and was read in its English translation by the theatre actor Moatazza Abdel Sabour (his daughter). Some of his private letters and small parts of his contributions to poetic dramas was also presented.

SIGNING AN AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE EUROPEAN UNIVERSITY IN EGYPT AND UNIVERSITY OF LONDON

ART EXHIBITION "UNTOLD STORIES"




On Wednesday 9th of May 2018, The Cultural Office launched the Art xhibition (Untold Stories) of the Egyptian-British artist Nevin Fathi, which was held at the Cultural Office until Saturday May 12th 2018. The exhibition included various oil paintings of Egyptian faces expressing human experiences, body language and facial expressions. "DROPS OF THE NILE" ART EXHIBITION



The London Cultural Bureau hosted "Drops of the Nile" Exhibition by the Egyptian British artist Dina Najm from Wednesday May 2nd of 2018 until Friday May 4th of 2018. The exhibition displayed more than 25 paintings, composed of small water drops that combine to form distinctive paintings reflecting life around the River Nile. The artist has been affected since her studies in the Faculty of Fine Arts by the movement of Impressionism and its leaders Monet, Edgar and Cezanne, who were characterized by unique and unfamiliar paintings. This was Dina Najm's first solo exhibition, and was very well received and appreciated by the audience.

On March 27, 2018, Dr. Reem Bahgat, London's Cultural Counselor, participated in the opening of a photo exhibition on handicrafts made by residents of the Al Darb Al Ahmar area as part of the Aghakhan Foundation for Sustainable Development project for the region of Al Darb Al Ahmar. The images show the diversity of works of leather, wood and copper; The residents have been trained on conservation & restoration skills . The Cultural Bureau organized an evening to commemorate the national songs written by the poet Abdul Rahman Al Abnoudi and the singer Abdel Halim Hafez on Saturday 24th of March 2018. The evening was attended by the media figure Nihal Kamal, spouse of the late poet and ex director of the Egyptian Televison. The evening was also attended by Mohamed Rahim the musician. It was presented by the media figure Muhammad Musallami, for his close relationship with the family of "Al-Khal", a title of which the late poet was known. The Cultural Bureau hosted Dr. Wassim Al Sisi, where he delivered a lecture on Friday, 9 March 2018, on "The Egyptian Civilization and Personality between Hopes and Challenges". Dr. Waseem Al Sisi, a Urology Specialist, holds two FRCS degrees from England and Scotland and a fellowship from the American College of Surgeons. He has many researches in Urology and even has a prostate surgery under his name. On the other hand, Dr. Waseem Al-Sisi was concerned with his country's issues and found that to return to the civilized face of Egypt and status of being pioneers in arts & science , it is necessary to look at our ancient history. Upon the invitation of the University of Cambridge, Dr. Reem Bahgat attended the main lecture of Professor Khaled Fahmy, Professor of Arabic Studies in the 19th Century at Cambridge University, on Thursday, 22nd of February 2018, titled (Islam and Science in Contemporary Egypt). MEETING WITH THE HEADS OF BRITISH UNIVERSITIES: SCIENTIFIC COOPERATION WITH EGYPT



The Higher Council of British Universities organized a meeting with H.E Prof. Khalid Abdul Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education, with the heads of British universities who expressed interest in further scientific cooperation with Egypt. The meeting was held on Thursday 25th of January 2018. THE FRANCIS CREEK FOUNDATION FOR BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH VISIT



Organized by the UK Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, H.E Dr. Khalid Abdul Ghafar visited the Francis Creek Biomedical Research Foundation on Thursday,25th of January 2018, with Dr. Mohammed Salehin and Prof. Reem Bahgat. The delegation was received by Sir Paul Neris, Executive Director of the Foundation and Nobel laureate, who gave a presentation on the institution, which was founded in 2016 with governmental funding and in partnership with the Medical Research Council, Cancer Research Foundation, Wellcome Trust, UCL University, Imperial College London and Kings College London. TRAINING PROGRAM FOR YOUNG UNIVERSITY LEADERS



Dr. Khalid Al-Ghaffar, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Salehin and Dr. Reem Bahgat met with Mr. Dot Daimon, Director of International Projects at the Leadership Foundation in Higher Education on 23rd of January 2018. It was agreed that the Foundation would submit a one-year proposal to train Egyptian trainers from the experienced faculty members. The training should include a design for the appropriate expected training of university leaders under the supervision of the British institution, as well as following up of the Egyptian trainers while conducting the first training for young university leaders by the institution.

BILATERAL AGREEMENT TO ORGANIZE THE PRESENCE OF BRITISH UNIVERSITIES BRANCHES IN EGYPT



His Excellency Dr. Khalid Al-Ghaffar met with Sam Jameh, Minister of British Universities and Science, to sign the bilateral agreement between the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and the British Ministry of Higher Education, which sets a framework for establishing and activating branches of British universities in Egypt. It should be noted that this bilateral agreement is the first of its kind, which sets a framework for opening of branches of international universities in Egypt. WORLD EDUCATION FORUM



H.E Dr. Khalid Al-Ghaffar, Prof. Dr. Johansen Eid, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Salehin and Prof. Reem Bahgat attended the World Education Forum, which was held on 22-23 January 2018. The Forum is organized annually by the British Government and is always keen to invite the Ministers of Education and Higher Education from all countries and the delegation accompanying them.

H.E MINISTER NABILA MAKRAM HONORS AN ELITE OF EGYPTIAN SCIENTISTS IN THE UK




On Sunday evening, 21st of January 21 2018, the Cultural Bureau in London hosted the meeting of Her Excellency Nabila Makram, Minister of State for Migration and Egyptians' Affairs Abroad, with an elite of Egyptians residing in the United Kingdom. The meeting was organized by His Excellency Ambassador Alaa Yousef, Consul General of Egypt in the United Kingdom. The meeting was attended by Ambassador Nasser Kamel, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the United Kingdom, and Dr. Reem Bahgat, Cultural Counselor.
