The Higher Council of British Universities organized a meeting with H.E Prof. Khalid Abdul Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education, with the heads of British universities who expressed interest in further scientific cooperation with Egypt. The meeting was held on Thursday 25th of January 2018. It was attended by Prof. Mohamed Salehin, Prof. Reem Bahgat, Ms. Claire Durkin, Head of Global Science, Innovation and Knowledge Economy, UK Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS), Ms. Vivian Stern, Director of the Supreme Council of International Universities, Minister of Foreign Trade, Mr. Jeff Streiter, Director of the British Council in Egypt, and Ms. Sahar Khamis, Director of Education at the British Council, Egypt. Presidents / vice presidents of the following universities were also present: Huddersfield, Glasgow, Portsmouth, Bristol, Manchester Metropolitan, Salford, Cardiff Metropolitan, Coventry, Leicester, Quinn Margarit, Edinburgh Nabie, and Liverpool. Representatives of the universities inquired about the expected timing of the finalization of the law governing the branches of the international universities. The minister replied: "within three months", explaining that the law is covering all countries, but the framework signed with the British Ministry of Education gives the required framework for British universities. One of the attendees asked about the infrastructure of scientific research in Egypt. His Excellency highlighted the strength of scientific research in Egypt, and what we lack is the related association with the industry, as he pointed out to the supporting bodies of scientific research in Egypt. A visit of the heads of universities to Egypt was decided to be on 25 June 2018.
